Call for Special Issue: Advances in higher education with artificial intelligence

2020-06-16

Higher education is a focal point of knowledge & its application, and higher educational institutions are making an incredible commitment towards financial growth and improvement through fostering innovation. At the same time, they face difficulties in identifying skills gaps, creating innovative programs, adhering demand for advanced skills, and developing relevant skills. Similarly, there are other challenges, including disengaged students and high dropout rates that are nowadays turning into a typical issue in many higher educational institutions. However, it is mandatory to improve the quality of education, and hence imparting modern technology into the field of higher education will help to overcome the existing problems. To overcome these challenges using an advanced intelligent technique like Artificial Intelligence (AI) for creating a correct and personalized learning experience. AI in the field of higher education will contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and helps to transform the teaching and learning experience. With a personalized learning experience through AI, every student will attain a unique educational approach. This approach could directly increase students’ motivation and reduce their dropout rate. AI has incredible potential to transform industries like healthcare, education, energy, finance, retail, etc.  The use of AI enhances the teaching fraternity to understand each student’s learning process better and enable them to teach more effectively to improve the students’ learning styles, abilities, and progress.

Moreover, AI has characteristics that are adaptive, independent, responsive, and decisive. These characteristics can assist educationalists in interpreting interactions between humans and machines, achieve mandatory goals based on the retrieved information, increase the effectiveness of new information behavior, and generate decisions without human interventions. AI will help the students to reach their full potential, quite possibly preventing them from discontinuing the course by identifying problems early enough, and appropriate corrective measures can be taken. Administrating AI in higher education improves admission and enrollment process, refines planning adaptive curriculum, enhances courseware and assessment tools, and assists students and teachers virtually. Furthermore, effective outcomes can be achieved in higher education when combining the strengths of AI and human abilities. However, many organizational, societal, and regulatory concerns may occur while implementing AI in the higher educational platform. Addressing these challenges ethically and practically may create a positive influence in higher education. This special issue provides a typical medium for the researchers, policymakers, and academicians to publish their original research articles in the areas which will motivate students and teachers.
